The
Danger of Asbestos
to Today's Firefighters
Although many people believe that asbestos
has been banned in the United States and is no longer
a concern, this toxic
chemical remains in existing structures and poses a danger to anyone who works
near damaged or destroyed buildings.
For this reason, firefighters,
EMTs and paramedics who respond to a fire or other incident that causes structural
damage need to be aware of the risks of developing
asbestos cancer and the steps they can take to avoid it.
