Seminole County Government, FL High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years experience in plans review, fire and life safety inspection or a related field such as construction. A post secondary or technical education in a fire prevention related field may be substitute for the experience required. Knowledge of local government development regulation processes. Knowledge of the adopted fire codes, applicable ordinances, and building regulations. Ability to work and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with citizens, architects, engineers and developers. Ability to read and interpret construction and fire protection system documents. between response shifts and advise Assistant Chiefs and Fire Chier of
division wide administrative and operational activities. Conduct personnel/staffing
utilization analysis and recommend effective utilization policies and
procedures. Evaluate and recommend to an Assistant Chief or Fire Chief
on hiring, termination, performance evaluation, disciplinary action and/or
commendatory actions for assigned personnel. Education, training, experience: Associates Degree in Fire Science or Emergency Medical Services or other fire service related field, and ten (10) years experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, rescue operations, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible supervisory capacity comparable to the rank of Battalion Chief. Completion of the Executive Fire Officers Program at the National Fire Academy is preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of rescue, emergency medical services, and firefighting techniques. Knowledge of the geography of Seminole County including principal and potential fire hazards. Thorough knowledge of Public Safety Department rules and regulations. Must meet all Florida State Firefighter Standards Council Rules and Regulations for firefighters and company officers. Must possess and maintain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician I. New hires must have abstained from use of tobacco products for twelve (12) months prior to application with Seminole County (Florida Statute Section 633.34). Must be in excellent health and maintain good physical condition. Must be able to complete the Divisions physical requirements testing and maintain a fit for duty evaluation.
